After being lucky enough to have always known my vocation, at age 16 I keenly pursued my childhood dream of becoming a hairdresser by applying – and being accepted – at the prestigious Vidal Sassoon in London. I loved every part of my training, but it soon became clear that I excelled in cutting and styling, and after 3 years of tuition, my passion to take my skill outside of the salon environment led me into session hairdressing.
During my 10 years at Sassoon, learning and honing my craft, I progressed into teaching, and, working alongside Peter Grey, Jon Vial and Billy Currie, I steadily moved into the editorial side of hairdressing, quickly acknowledging my passion for the creative flair that this area of hairdressing offered me, and I knew this was the direction my career would take.
In 2002 I was accepted into a small agency, and I quickly established a presence working in the teen magazine market and newspaper supplements. My clientele rapidly grew and my career flourished, and I have since worked with esteemed photographers such as David Bailey, Mathew Shave and Eamon McAbe on glossy fashion magazines including Marie Claire and Elle, and homes titles including Wallpaper.
Outside of session styling, in 2007, I embarked on an exciting four-year collaboration with model and TV presenter Emma Willis, working as ambassador for Head & Shoulders, and on advertising campaigns for brands including Max factor, River Island, Pantene, Bose and many more.
In recent years, I’ve enjoyed branching out into celebrity male grooming, and to date my portfolio includes working with artists including Take That, McFly, Busted, Niall Horan, Sam Smith and Gordon Ramsay. In 2012 I secured a role as personal hairdresser and groomer for the pop star and TV personality Olly Murs. In our seven years working together, I have been privileged to travel alongside Olly, supporting him in not only three tours, but also in his album promotion tours, and TV work, including two season as a judge on ITV1’s The Voice. This work has been a pleasure and a privilege, and has brought some of my career highlights. In this field, my work has become more varied, working with celebrities, music and fashion, and I’ve been lucky enough to travel the world, work with incredibly talented people and being involved with so many amazing shows and events.
